Ocellus Games is the our game development studio from Ocellus Group. We are on the lookout for seniors developers who wants to build the next generation of games in a human sized, very independent team setup. 

Our awards-winning Art Services, Ocellus Services, allows our game development teams to stay small, fully independent and focus on making great games. Our game development teams will have access to the same artistic production quality as the one we provide to our partners Supercell, Epic or Square Enix to name a few.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We’re looking for versaltile, creative developers with both technical and artistic skills to join our Ocellus Lab team in a hybrid role focused on gamefeel-driven prototyping.

Take early gameplay ideas and bring them to life through fun, juicy, highly playable prototypes.

You're not here to build systems for final production, you're here to spark the fire and explore how mechanics feel before they become real features.

You're not here to prototype what already exist but to explore what doesn't !

You will work closely with creative leads to rapidly prototype gameplay ideas, focusing on playful experimentation. Not a pure gameplay programmer, but someone who understands fun through 360degrees, and can bring ideas to life with tight control & visual feedback

 

KEY TRAITS

  • Strong in-engine prototyping  (Unreal)
  • Deep sense of gamefeel
  • Comfortable blending his own code (UE blueprint is fine) with his own placeholder art/FX
  • Fast, curious, creative, and highly iterative..

 

DETAILED SKILLS

  • Wide knowledge of 3D softwares (preferably Maya)
  • Ability to create ready-to-use 3D art assets:Modeling
    • Rigging
    • Skinning
    • UV mapping
  • Ability to create ready-to-use 2D art assets:
    • Textures
    • UI
  • Good artistic knowledge:
    • It's OK not to be an expert as long as you understand how art works
    • Ability to understand and deal with artistic implications
  • Comfortable with Unreal Engine:
    • Good knowledge of all the basics
    • Being able to extend your knowledge and explore unused-yet tools
  • Good understanding of shaders/material creation in Unreal Engine
    • Vertex color usage
    • UVs management
    • Usage of math functions to create various effects
  • Strong ability to spot on what feels right or wrong gamefeel wise:
    • Timing
    • Pacing
    • Signs & feedback
    • Readability
  • Basic knowledge of algebra, physics and geometry:
    • Understanding spaces (world, local, tangent, etc)
    • Ability to manipulate vectors and rotators with ease
    • Ability to extend your mathematics knowledge with advanced tools (using ChatGPT to provide code is fine if you know what you're striving for, but don't know the exact formula to get there)
  • Failure acceptance:
    • Ability to change or kill some code or design in order to improve gamefeel
    • Not being afraid of complex technical challenges. "Every battle, a chance to grow"
  • Cleanliness incentive:
    • Ability to provide clean code and blueprints. "Sharing is caring"
    • You're part of team. No one will bother you with your personal mess, but if you ever need to share your work, make it easy to read and to understand for other users
  • Wide knowledge of blueprints AND C++ coding

 

This position is on-site (hybrid can be discussed)

It is a full time contract, Mid to Senior level.
